Roaches

Cockroaches are resilient pests that spread bacteria, contaminate food, and are notoriously difficult to eliminate. They can trigger allergies and asthma, especially in children, and carry pathogens like Salmonella and E. coli.

Common Species

German Cockroach (Blattella germanica)

Small, light brown with two dark stripes on its back. One of the most common indoor roaches worldwide. Reproduce rapidly; a single female can produce thousands of offspring annually. Found in kitchens and bathrooms, hiding in cracks, crevices, and appliances.

American Cockroach (Periplaneta americana)

Reddish-brown, up to 2 inches long. Found in basements, crawl spaces, and sewers but can invade homes during warmer months. Capable of flying short distances.

Oriental Cockroach (Blatta orientalis)

Dark, almost black, with a shiny appearance. Prefers damp, cool environments like basements, drains, or under appliances. Sometimes called "water bugs."

Risk & Danger

can cause a variety of problems, including:

Signs of Infestation

  • Droppings: Resemble black pepper grains or dark smears near food sources or hidden areas.
  • Egg Casings (Oothecae): Brown, oval-shaped capsules found behind furniture or appliances.
  • Shed Skins: From molting roaches.
  • Live Insects: Sightings, especially during the day, indicate a severe infestation.
  • Odor: A distinct, musty or oily smell when populations are large.
  • Grease Marks: Smears along walls or baseboards.
  • Damage: Chew marks on packaging or organic materials.
  • Prevention Tips

Seal Entry Points: Inspect the building for gaps, cracks, and holes in the exterior walls that pests can use to enter.

Keep Food Secure: Store food in airtight containers, and clean up spills and crumbs immediately. Don’t leave pet food out overnight.

Eliminate Clutter: Pests thrive in cluttered environments where they can find hiding spots and nesting materials. Keep areas tidy, especially basements, attics, and storage rooms.

Maintain Landscaping: Trim back trees, shrubs, and dead plant matter that touch your building, as these can provide pathways for pests to enter. Keep firewood and debris away from your building.
